Your wedding is one of the most important and exciting days of your life. It will require a tremendous deal of planning and attention to detail to fulfill your expectations. The following checklist is provided so you can organize your time to ensure that you take care of all aspects of your wedding. These are general recommendations that can be adapted to your particular needs.

Six to twelve months before:

  • Select a wedding date and time.
  • Determine your wedding theme or style.
  • Decide on your color scheme.
  • Hire a wedding consultant, if you plan to use one.
  • Reserve your ceremony and reception location.
  • Determine who will officiate at the ceremony.
  • Determine the size of your guest list.
  • Start compiling names and addresses of your guests.
  • Select bridal attendants.
  • Have fiancé select his attendants.
  • Plan reception.
  • Check on catering facilities, if at a club or hotel.
  • Select a caterer, if one is necessary.
  • Select a professional photographer and videographer.
  • Select a professional florist.
  • Select your dress and hairpiece.
  • Select brides maid dresses
  • Announce your engagement in the newspaper.
  • Select engagement ring with fiance, if he as not already done so.

Four to six months before:

  • Make final arrangements for ceremony (reservations and deposits made, contracts signed, etc.).
  • Make sure all bridal attire is ordered.
  • Have both mothers coordinate and select their dresses.
  • Register at a bridal registry.
  • Order invitations and personal stationary.
  • Complete the guest list and compile them in order.
  • Make appointment for physical exam.
  • Start planning the honey moon.
  • Decide where you will live after the wedding.
  • Begin shopping for trousseau.

Two to three months before:

  • Obtain pass-port for honeymoon if needed. Address invitations and announcements. They should be mailed four to six weeks prior to wedding.
  • Finalize all details with florist, caterer, photographer, reception hall manager, musicians, etc.
  • Order wedding cake if not supplied by caterer.
  • Finalize ceremony details with officiant.
  • Make rehearsal arrangements.
  • Plan rehearsal dinner.
  • Plan bridesmaids' luncheon.
  • Make appoinments with hairdresser.
  • Arrange accomadations for out-of-town attendants and guests.
  • Finalize honeymoon plans.

One month before:

  • Have a final fitting for you and your bridal attendants' gowns.
  • Have a final bridal portrait done.
  • Make transportation arrangements.
  • Purchase gifts for atendants.
  • Purchase gift for fiance.
  • Have the bridesmaids' luncheon.
  • Purchase going away outfit.
  • Keep a careful record of all gifts received (write thank-you notes imeddiately instead of letting them pile up).
  • Make sure you have all accessories, ring pillow, garter, etc.
  • Select responsible person to handle guest book.

Two weeks before:

  • Attend to business and legal details. Get necessary forms to change names on social security card, driver's license, insurance and medical plans, bank accounts, etc. Have these forms ready to mail off after you return from your honeymoon.
  • Prepare wedding anouncements to be sent to paper.
  • Reconfirm the accomidations for out-of-town guests.
  • Arrange to have possesions and gifts moved to your new home.
  • Give a change of address card to the post office.

One week before:

  • Contact guests who have not responded.
  • Give the final count to caterer and review details.
  • Go over final details wih all professional services you have engaged. Inform them of any changes.
  • Give the photographer the lists of pictures you want.
  • Give the photographer a list of you would like included in your video.
  • Give all musicians the lists of music for the ceremoney and reception.
  • Plan the seating arangement
  • Arrange for someone to assist in last-minute errands and to help you dress.
  • Practice having your hair done to make sure it comes out properly, and determine the time it will take.
  • Keep up with the writing of thank-you notes.
  • Have a rehearsal with all participants, reviewing thier duties.
  • Attend rehearsal dinner party.

The day before:

  • Pack your suitcase for the honeymoon.
  • Make sure you fiance has the marriage license.
  • Make sure you have the wedding rings, and they fit.
  • Have nails done.
  • Stay with the family the night before the wedding. Get to bed early. You will want to look and feel great the next day.

On the wedding day:

  • Make sure to eat something, many brides have been known to faint.
  • Take a nice relaxing bath.
  • Fix hair or have an appointment to have it done at least 3 to 4 hours prior to the ceremony.
  • Allow plenty of time to apply makeup.
  • Allow plenty of time to dress (approx. 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours).

  • HAVE FUN

After the wedding:

  • Write and mail thank-you notes.
